- Home Office Race Equality Unit: the formulation of a grant
assessment and evaluation procedure including a Risk Audit for a new programme
(2000).
- National Audit Office: a Benchmarking Study of Good Practice
in Monitoring and Evaluating Voluntary Sector Grant Giving, used for auditing
the National Lottery Charities Board (1999).
- National Lottery Charities Board International: advised
on funding strategies in CEE countries (1996).
- Co-Operation for Development: designing a new funding
programme in the Caribbean (1995).
- Foreign & Commonwealth Office and ODA: development of systems
for Charity Know How (1993).
2. Developing self-evaluation systems
- UK and international
donors and charities/NGOs: the provision of self-evaluation support and technical assistance
to a
large number of initiatives
(1984-2003).
- The Federation of Irish Advice Centres: the design of
a computerised system to enable the monitoring of and networking among Advice
Centres providing services to Irish communities in the UK (1997).

- Mott Foundation: evaluation of the CAF-Mott Challenge
Grants programme to assess its role in developing Community Foundations across
the UK (1992-1994).
- Academy for Educational Development: evaluation of USAID's
NGO development Training program in Croatia (2000).
- The European Foundation Centre - evaluation of the EFC
Orpheus Programme (2001).
- Department for International Development: evaluation of
first year's operational plan, the development of a second year's operational
plan and a programme management cycle for Civic Initiatives, Croatia (2000).
- International Meeting for Grantmakers (IMAG): evaluation
of their conference in Mexico and follow-up study of outcomes for participants
across 26 countries (1999).
- Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Mott Foundation: programmatic evaluation of training and development programmes for the
NGO sector in five CEE countries - included running seminars for the donors
on
strategies for funding NGO programmes in CEE countries (1998).
- Mott Foundation: evaluation of NGO Resource Centres in
Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic with one overall report
and five country reports (1995).
- Foreign & Commonwealth Office and ODA: outcome evaluation
of Charity Know How in Russia, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria (1994).

Know How Fund: a needs assessment of the NGO sector in Croatia (1998).

Britain: programme assessment in Russia of the potential for fostering
and adoption (1994).

of the NGO sector in Serbia (1995).
- The Foreign Office's Know How Fund: a needs assessment
of the NGO sector in Romania (1994).
- Co-operation for Development: project assessment in Belize,
Guyana and Venezuela (1995).
5. Organisational development and strategic planning
- The European Commission: consultancy
to establish the Civil Society Development Foundation in Romania, including
the development
of a strategy, a programme management cycle, procedures for giving grants
and for evaluating them (1995 - 1997).
- ODRAZ, Croatia: capacity building to help establish a
new NGO - developing aims and objectives and procedures for designing and
managing projects, establishing monitoring and evaluation systems and governance
procedures (2001).
6. Training and capacity building
- British Embassy,
Argentina: advised
members of the Argentine government on the development of a Compact between
government and NGOs. Trained
members of the Social Development Unit of the Argentine government in the
principles of good grant-making and the evaluation of social programmes,
and
trained donors in the principles of good grant-making to NGOs (2000).
- British Embassy, Argentina: three training programmes
in management development for NGOs in Argentina, covering strategic planning,
HRM, managing volunteers, monitoring and evaluation and fundraising (1999).
- British Council: trained staff members and assessors of
the Social Development Fund in Romania in the principles of assessing projects
and monitoring and evaluating social programmes (1999).
- Department for International Development: strategic planning
and technical assistance to help establish a new community development NGO
- the Civic Initiatives, Croatia (1998).
- Know How Fund: three-year Training of Trainers programme
for management development of NGOs in Romania (1995-98).
- Know How Fund: two-year Training of Trainers programme
for management development of NGOs in Serbia (1996-98).
- Civic Initiatives, Serbia: management development training
for NGOs in Montenegro (1997).
- Co-operation for Development: training in the development
and management of Posadas in Venezuela (1996).
- Civil Society Development Foundation: Trained Board members
in principles of good grant giving, assessment of grants and evaluation (1997).
- National Democratic Institute: training in capacity building
for NGOs dealing with elections in Bulgaria (1996).
- National Democratic Institute: training in capacity building
for NGOs from Russia, Crimea, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Estonia, Croatia,
Poland - held in Hungary (1993).
- Westminster Foundation: training in management development
for NGOs in Serbia (1994).
- Black Sea University: training in institutional development

7. Social research
- Research into the effects of the
new legislation for asylum seekers upon the development of Refugee Community
Organisations in the UK
(2000-1).
- Research into the research activities of the UK voluntary
sector: longitudinal studies conducted over a period of 15 years, tracing
the changes that have taken place (between 1985-2000).
- An exploratory study of Hammersmith & Fulham Council policy
and practice, and local support services concerning the issue of Domestic
Violence (1989).
- North London University: research into the emerging NGO
sector in Russia and CEE countries (1988).
